How to ride

Each horse has a personality. A spirited horse speeds up unless you half-halt. A spooky horse looks at new things and may refuse a rushed jump. A stubborn horse waits, then stays true. A calm horse is smooth. A brave horse forgives a long spot.

• Left and right reins steer. Half-halt (slow) collects the stride and, if you keep holding, steps down a gait.
• Longer asks for a bigger, faster stride in the same gait.
• Walk, trot, and canter are separate aids. Keys: A/D or arrows to steer, S or down to half-halt, W or up to lengthen, Z X C or 1 2 3 for gaits, Space to jump.
• Jump when the fence is close. Line up with the standards. Trot the small ones. Canter the big ones.
• Trails pay coins. Clear rounds, tidy faults, and time trials pay ribbons. Ribbons open new rides. Coins welcome new horses.
• Hay, carrots, and grooming fill energy. Training grows a stat, spends energy, and then the horse rests.
